Market Umbrella is an independent nonprofit 501(c)(3), based in New Orleans, whose mission is to cultivate the field of public markets for public good. Market Umbrella has operated the Crescent City Farmers Markets (CCFM) since 1995.
Market Match: Meeting Shoppers Halfway
We believe farmers markets should benefit farmers, shoppers, and the wider community. Through Market Match, we offer incentives to vulnerable consumers to purchase the best local produce available at our markets, ReFresh Farmers Market, Top Box Foods Louisiana, River Queen Greens, and Grow Dat Youth Farm.
Traditionally, Market Umbrella has matched up to $20 per market visit, but in recognition of the urgent food access need exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic and with a recently awarded Gus Schumacher Nutrition Incentive Program grant from the U. S. Department of Agriculture's National Institute of Food and Agriculture, the limit for Market Match has been increased to $60
Market Match for SNAP
Are you enrolled in SNAP, the federal program also known as Food Stamps? There are now so many ways to Market Match! Here’s how Market Match works:
At Crescent City Farmers Markets
First, purchase wooden tokens from the Market’s Welcome Tent with your Electronic Benefit Transfer (EBT) card. EBT tokens can be used to purchase any item at the market that you’d normally swipe your EBT card for in a store. Through Market Match, we’ll match each EBT dollar you spend, dollar for dollar, with additional tokens that can be used to purchase fruits, vegetables, and even food-bearing plant starts!
Through Top Box Foods Louisiana
Now, you can use Market Match for all SNAP eligible products offered by Top Box Foods Louisiana and have them delivered directly to your house! Visit their website to see their delivery radius and place your order!
At SPROUT NOLA’s ReFresh Farmers Market
Visit the ReFresh Farmers Market on Monday afternoons from 3pm to 6pm on the Lafitte Greenway (2606 St. Louis Street). CCFM shoppers can also use their Market Match tokens to buy fresh fruits and veggies at the Refresh Market and vice versa!
At Grow Dat Youth Farm
Use your EBT card to purchase the spring or fall CSA offered by Grow Dat Youth Farm and get half off the purchase price.
At River Queen Greens
Use your EBT card to purchase any Farm Share from River Queen Greens and get half off the purchase price.
Also, starting in 2021, SNAP shoppers will have the opportunity to learn some new chops through cooking and nutrition classes offered through Tulane University's Goldring Center for Culinary Medicine.
