Celebrating National Hispanic/Latinx Heritage Month
| September 24, 2024 |
Fresh & Local:Celebrating National Hispanic/Latinx Heritage MonthNational Hispanic/Latinx Heritage Month marks the celebration and recognition of the experience and meaningful contributions of Hispanic & Latinx people to this world. This month of celebration begins on September 15 and lasts until October 15. There is such a rich history of Hispanic and Latinx people in New Orleans! As a port city, New Orleans has long been a site of trade with Latin America. Over the years, many people have migrated to New Orleans along these routes, bringing with them aquatic farming methods, polycultural crop-rearing, and many more agricultural practices that help us better protect and respond to the land and each other. At Crescent City Farmers Market, we are celebrating National Hispanic/Latinx Heritage Month by recognizing and uplifting the Hispanic/Latinx people in our community, especially our vendors! Visit Amanda’s Fruit Specialties, Applied Arts Coffee, Casa Borrega Tacos, Latino Snacks, Isabel’s Tamales & Produce, and Qué Pasta NOLA. Plus vendor demos, local chef demos, and live music. Check out the exciting lineup on our Instagram and Facebook pages - with more announcements coming soon! |
Picks of the Week:Welcoming Back Vendors from Summer Break! It’s been a hot summer - we don’t have to tell you that twice. With the first official day of fall behind us, perhaps the weather will soon match. Either way, we’re excited to welcome back some vendors from their summer break! Too Tall Farm and Nursery and Paella NOLA are back at the Thursday Mid-City and Sunday City Park Markets, and the Sprout Farm Truck at the Thursday Mid-City Market. Come out and enjoy even more tasty treats, fresh produce, and new additions to your garden. |
No RealCycle Drop-Offs on October 6Realcycle, one of our community partners at the market, will not be at next Sunday’s Market on October 6th. Please plan to bring your recyclables this coming weekend or wait for their return the following Sunday. The market isn’t able to handle recycling or compost drop-offs on October 6th, so we’d appreciate it if we could work together and keep the area clear. Thanks for your flexibility, and kudos to you for keeping our earth Green! |
Louisiana Shrimp Festival & Shrimp AidCome out and support local shrimpers and their coastal communities on October 20th, 11am - 7pm at The Broadside, New Orleans. The Louisiana Shrimp Festival/Shrimp Aid aims to raise awareness about the challenges faced by our local shrimp and fishing industries while creating new economic opportunities for our coastal fishing communities and the broader regional seafood sector. With an urgent call to action of SOS: Save our Shrimpers, the festival will feature award-winning musical artists, food booths from top New Orleans restaurants and pop-ups, and a variety of youth activities, ensuring a fun and family-friendly experience typical of Louisiana festivals. |
Community Partners in the MarketDid you see the City of New Orleans at the market last week? As part of our Community Partners program, city representatives were at the market to spread awareness about New Orlean’s American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funding. For all questions about ARPA and its related mortgage assistance, please reach out to the city’s ARPA Implementation Director at tricia.diamond@nola.gov. Are you interested in being a community partner or know an organization that would fit well into the market? Visit our website to learn more and apply today! |
