Fresh & Local:

Restaurants Buying Local

When you eat and shop local, you're helping out the farmers and producers at the farmers market. It's like saying, "Hey, thanks!" to the people who grow and make the stuff you love. Plus, it keeps money flowing in our community. When restaurants shop at the Crescent City Farmers Market, it’s a win-win for everyone; you get fresh food, chefs get a fair deal, and our community's economy gets a boost. Plus chefs can develop relationships with farmers and producers and get creative serving up in-season produce.

Visit the new Restaurants Buying Local page on our website to see a list of all the chefs and restaurants around town that support local farmers and producers, including:

DAKAR NOLA - James Beard nominated Chef Serigne Mbaye and co-owner Dr. Afua “Effie” Richardson serving up dinners featuring multiple courses, some served family style in homage to west African dining traditions.

Porgy’s - Porgy's Seafood Market is a retail space and restaurant in Mid-City that showcases the diversity and abundance of the Gulf Coast with an emphasis on sustainable, wild-caught prepared seafood and fresh fish for home preparation.

JV Foods - JV Foods is a chef and restaurant driven food distributor servicing the New Orleans and Gulf Coast communities. They proudly offer the finest locally sourced proteins, produce, and seafood available on the market, including purchasing from CCFM vendors.

This week, the students from the Morris Jeff Community School will be visiting our Tuesday Uptown Market through the Meet me at the Market program. Our Tuesday market is where we host exciting field trip programming for local school children to learn hands on about the market.

During a Meet Me at the Market field trip, students get to meet our regional food producers, taste local produce, and learn about the importance of eating healthy and supporting our local economy. Public schools in Orleans Parish participate for free! Are you an educator or know someone who’d be interested in a field trip? If so, contact Brittani Nelson.

White Sand Homestead

Lamb, pork, and eggs, oh my! White Sand Homestead Farm joined CCFM at the end of 2022, and we are so glad they did! Run by Aaron Snelling and his father, White Sand Homestead Farm began as a pecan orchard and has since grown into a small farm. Aaron was inspired to make a difference after his experiences in the farm, food, and service industries and now uses sustainable techniques and organic principles on his farm. Aaron’s pigs eat pecans, acorns, and various forage plants like daikon or mustard greens while exploring and living happily on the acres of the farm! Find White Sand Homestead at every Sunday City Park Market, offering a delicious variety of exceptional meats and eggs.
